Rotary Reflection

For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!

Speaker February 20th, 2024 - Jennifer Westholt RC Oberhawen Antony-Huette, Germany.

Today we were honoured to have Jennifer Westholt speak to our club about Adesuwa, an organization that works in Coker Village, near Lagos, Nigeria. Named after a Nigerian Queen who brought prosperity to her people, Adesuwa's mission states, "Our hands pave the way for a better future for Nigerian children."
Since 2012 Adesuwa has been conducting various projects in Coker, and now sponsors the school expenses for 70 children. Only 60% of the area children can afford to attend school, so this help is changing the lives of many children in the area. Adesuwa also has project days, focusing on Malaria prevention, medical outreach, sports days, vocational promotion, and more.

Jennifer's full talk can be seen at - https://youtu.be/TC-ErAU0w9M

PEP, or President Elect's Ponderings

PEP 19 for February 5, 2023. President-Elect’s Ponderings—10-year Visioning Update

Our board held a special meeting February 4, open to all members, to develop a vision and mission statement and to update our strategic plan. In the coming weeks, we will offer in stages what is emerging for club discussion and adoption. We are evolving into a club that is shaped by the passions and commitments of those who join with us in fellowship and service.

Membership Moment

Feeding off of our Fireside Chat, Ana spoke about the path to make our club irresistible. The 8th of March is International Women's Day, there will be a Rotary seminar focusing on women in Rotary. Let Ana know if you are interested, she will send you the link.
Also Ana spoke about 'Designing Your Rotary Experience". The aim is to demystify Rotary, to allow prospective members to see how Rotary fits them, not how they can fit in to Rotary. More to come on that front.

Announcements

Bill Egnatoff - District Conference takes place in Clayton, New York, May 3rd to 5th. Early arrivers on Friday can go on a tour of the boat museum in Clayton. Please consider attending and enhance your Rotary experience.

The board will be working on drafting a new vision statement for the club. There will be a special meeting on March 4th, all are welcome to attend, invitations will follow.

Ten Rotarians attended the Fireside Chat Saturday. Great ideas were flowing, including an idea from Cristy, who suggested that a long time member be 'interviewed' for a minute or two to help newer members learn more about them. Turning the tables, Cristy was then asked to chose someone to try out this new idea, and chose Bill Gray.

Ana Sutherland - On April 13, 2024, our club will participate with a booth in "The Local Show 2024". Sponsored by RsStart, this show will highlight local businesses, and is geared to newer residents, students, and people relocating to Kingston. It is a perfect opportunity for our club to network. Ana will be looking for volunteers to help staff the booth - experience is not necessary, enthusiasm is.
What the show about? See https://www.kingstonchamber.ca/the_local_show_2024/
