THE ROTARY FOUNDATION and its fascinating story

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve World understanding and peace through humanitarian, cultural exchange and educational programs.

The six causes of the Foundation are: PROMOTING PEACE, PROVIDING CLEAN WATER, FOSTERING HEALTH, SAVING MOTHER & CHILD, SUPPORTING EDUCATION and GROWING LOCAL ECONOMIES.

Under health and through its POLIO PLUS program the Rotary Foundation has wiped out 99.9 per cent of all polio cases. For every $1 Rotary commits to Polio eradication, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pledges to commit $ 2.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION was founded in 1917 and is a subsidiary of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, itself founded in 1905. It is globally active in over 200 countries and territories. More than 35,000 Rotary clubs carry out sustainable service projects that support the six causes and over the past 101 years the Foundation has spent US $ billion on life-changing sustainable projects.

Starting with a mere US $ 26.50 in 1917, The Rotary Foundation is today a recognized as a 4-star charity, the Charity Navigator’s highest level.

The Rotary Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable purposes and is governed by a Board of Trustees. 91% of the funds are spent directly on programs. Through good stewardship their annual fund earned 11.6 % in the 2017 fiscal year. Over the past 5 years it generated an average rate of 6.5 % and grew from US$ 369million to US$ 464 million.
