Building a More Inclusive Community at Queen's University - What Can it Teach Rotary in Kingston?
Jan 29, 2019 7:00 AM
Vanessa Yzaguirre (MA’16) is someone who likes to make things happen. She is also someone who is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusivity. And she enjoys working with students. It is this combination which drew Ms. Yzaguirre to a new role in the Division of Student Affairs. Recently, she became the portfolio’s inaugural Diversity and Inclusivity Coordinator. “My main goal is to spark conversations about identity, diversity, and inclusivity in order to start shifting the culture around it,” she says. “I hope that this position really helps to find ways for students from equity-seeking groups to express their thoughts and creates a climate where all feel welcome and appreciated for who they are and what they have to say.” |

KFL&A Public Health Fall Prevention Ambassadors - preventing falls for seniors
Apr 16, 2019 7:00 AM
The Fall Prevention Program enlists trained volunteers to share evidence-based information and practical resources on falls prevention to older adults in KFL&A. Falls can happen at any time but tend to increase in the winter due to snow and ice. Most falls cause broken or fractured bones and increase the need for caregiver support and add pressure to the health care system. The good news is that most falls are predictable and preventable. This is an important message for people to understand. |

Your local PBS televison station, WPBS
Apr 23, 2019 7:00 AM
Kraig directs the programming and development teams at WPBS, the PBS station serving Northern New York and Eastern Ontario for over 60 years. Over 70% of WPBS' viewers and donors are Canadian and so Kraig would like to meet an important segment of their audience. Their mission is to be the trusted media source for lifelong education, entertainment, and information to our two-nation region through quality content, partnerships, and service that inspires those they serve. Kraig's presentation will give a brief history of the station, station operations, and a review of our strategic plan. Kraig also is interested in hearing feedback from our Club members and guests as leaders in the community. |
