The Rotary Four Way Test
Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned
Rotary Reflection
For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!
The Loyal Toast
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Queen of Canada!
Acknowledgement of Territory
We are gathered on traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory. we are grateful to be able to join together in Rotary Fellowship on these lands.
Back from a few weeks absence, Ron first fined John Farrow for a text in which he referred to Ron, as “dude”. Ron then gave a September quiz, mastered mostly by Michelle, who even though not born in September, will happily accept sapphires at any point .
Happy/Sad Bucks
Ron started off with $5 for the weeks he’s been away due to a crazy time in Real Estate. Greg Mumford added bucks because he beat the rush of movers out of Toronto a few years ago, for lots of people out on the water, and the ease of paying fines by e-transfer.
Bill Egnatoff announced On’A’Gottay still has his sewing machine for sale. He also had a buck for his committee meeting and a self-imposed fine for being late with Courier notes.
Announcements
Apologies from your scribe - I lost the Zoom connection briefly, so some announcements may be missing.
John Gale: President John announced there's been a request to consider meeting after the work day as opposed to early in the morning. And the thought is that if we do that, it will make attracting, attracting new members who are still in the workforce.
Ana Sutherland:September 19th in the morning, 9:00 to 12:00 is another harvest day at Robinson Gardens. There's potatoes. carrots, beans, squash, especially with that nice rain that we had. Bring your families, bring your friends and put your gardening gloves on and let's meet at Robinson Gardens in the morning on the 19th of September.
Reminding everybody about the District Conference - October 16th, 17th and 18th. Please register, there are some workshops that you can choose.
A reminder to please submit your fines/happy bucks to Rick, via cheque or e-transfer
We've been approached by the Odd Fellows wanting to know if we're going to come back to their Hall, and if so, when. Members are missing the in person meetings and would like them to resume.
Directors will be canvassing the members, but the following points were raised at the meeting;
In person activities are good for our mental well being as a club.
Are we going to be fully masked for the meetings?
How do we handle food service? Coffee service?
Do we just gather for juice and coffee?
What are the sanitizing requirements we need to follow? Sanitizer at the door.
How do we adapt if we make a commitment and then things change?
Is the ventilation in the hall adequate? Especially downstairs.
Can we have open air meetings, weather permitting?
How does this all fit in with flu season? Is it wise going back to an enclosed space at this time?
Can we have a BYOB (bring your own breakfast)?
What about entry and exit?
Can we ensure adequate social distancing?
Most members agree a properly distanced social event would be great.
Can we do hybrid meetings? That would suit members who are higher risk.
Remember masks must come off when eating – is there enough social distance?
Mermaid Sandwich will provide individually wrapped sandwiches.
What about washrooms?
Do we need to wait to see if the second wave arrives and how bad it is.
Can we have some in-person meetings and zoom meetings? How will the Oddfellows react to that?
Greg Mumford: The auction is running. All are welcome at auction meetings. All contributions are welcome. We especially need help with communications and marketing.
