The Rotary Four Way Test

Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  Will it be beneficial to all concerned

Rotary Reflection

For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!

The Loyal Toast

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Queen of Canada!

Today is not National Funeral Director’s day.
What day is it?
If you didn’t spill your coffee all over on your paper work!
Who was in town and available? Pay if you didn’t attend conference.
Who is not wearing purple?
Who made a donation to Foundation or Polio Plus?
In what year did global polio eradication begin? Bernie was in Munich when it was announced in 1987. In 1985, the committee in Evanston, Illinois examined participating. BMW raffled a car  with $100 tickets. Bernie’s number was off by one! When the campaign was announced, polio, chaired by Martin Thomas, was our first international effort.

Who is mostly affected by polio? Children under five.
Who matches money raised by Rotary 2:1? Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Only two countries left with Polio? Afghanistan and Pakistan. Africa declared free.
What is the Day of Tranquility? (nobody knew). Four-day arms set down by Sri Lankan Tigers, so that the north end of Sri Lanka could be reached for immunization.

Happy/Sad Bucks

Rick Fiedorec: seeing Bernie, seeing Reno, seeing Paul, and 2 for seeing Terry and Doug Hicks in attendance; $5 sad since hasn’t had coffee with Terry.
Ana: missing Terry Hicks.
John F: $10 Great district Conference. Thanks to Sean and Bernie for this morning, thanks to kids for purple markers
Bill: At least $10. Happy to have met with On’a’got’tay to deliver his auction donation to Royal Rugs. Yesterday, our piano was tuned and voiced, sounding beautiful, looking forward to recording to make music with friends. About to have a trio rehearsal. Lots of great things. Happy to be in renewed office in basement.
Robert: best Homecoming, as a student-landlord. No worries. $10
Greg: $10 Happy/sad. Found oil leak from motorcycle, sad—no clutch. Purple story: Bell Northern Research had purple as its colour, no clothing left from that, all worn out!
John Gale: $5, only a week to go before moving; almost done packing; another $5 sad in anticipation of unpacking.
Ana: $10 Great day to be alive.
Ed: $5 Unable to attend conference; teaching six-your old how to deke the goalie out of his underwear!
Bernie: $5 happy; meeting with Sheila’s surgeon—end is in sight of 20 months of daily nursing care.

Announcements

P-P/President Elect Ana Sutherland

The COVID-19 Task Force met last Tuesday. Isthmus and Food Sharing will resume collaboration with food boxes, delivering food as in summer, alternating weeks with each other. We will be assisting about 300 families. Please sign up to collect food from distribution centres, to pack, and  to delivery. The project may extend to people, especially seniors, who are shut in. Several organizations and agencies that run seniors support programs will be approached to see whether our support would be welcome.

The Centennial Joint Paul Harris award will not be presented in an in-person meeting, but a mixture of zoom and a recorded direct presentation of the awards. It will be treated as a very special community award. Two individuals—first-time recipients and non-Rotarian—and one organization will receive the awards. Please let Ana know your recommendations of individuals and organizations. The presentation date is March 25. We are hoping to do the presentations at City Hall.

Membership Report: Paul Jupp, Lise Coghlin, Tamas Zsolnay, and Reno Viola. The Membership Committee is meeting to make its decisions. Ana will then make a recommendation to the Board. Following Board approval, there will be an announcement in the Courier so we can read about them. We hope to induct them soon.

Robert Reid: National Committee Wednesday at 8 a.m. All welcome.

Cash calendars, $20 each. $10 from each comes to us. The goal for us ia 150 calendars. Calendars feature a daily draw for some amount of money. Robert is happy to deliver to any of us. Ana added that two of her family members received a luck draw of $250 and $50, calendar is great stocking stuffer!

Bill Egnatoff: Eight applications have been received for local service projects. All members are welcome to vet the applications. John Gale reminded us of the emphasis on building relationships.

Greg Mumford and John Farrow re Auction

There are currently 271 gifts on site. Another 10 or 12 to go up. W have two weeks left to bring in remaining gifts. We’ve come a long way and have received good support, but there are still more contributions to be had, so please keep going. Thanks to Rick Frasso who has arranged space for gift pickup. Several members have been approached to participate in CKWS spots. Greg has done one recording. Auction meeting Wednesday October 21, 5 p.m.

John Farrow: Today’s fines and happy bucks will go to Polio Plus.

He continued to serve in various capacities on both a full and part-time basis, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 2014. Highlight of his military career include commanding the Canadian Grenadier Guards

Paul Jupp
I was born and raised in Kingston. Initially lived in North End, then  moved to Kingston Mills then back into Kingston as a teen, always in  the West End. I did spend 5 years in Belleville (moved back 3 years  ago) and other than that have been in Kingston my entire life.

After graduating High School I went to Queens for 2 years (Science)  and then switched to St.Lawrence College where I graduated with a 3  year Business program.

After graduating College (1991) I started employment with Trent Drugs  (Business/Finance Dept) where I remained for almost 25 years. I then  bought Playtrium and have owned/worked since mid-2013.

When I am not working or spending time with the family I enjoy  working with my hands, renovating my house or business and I also  enjoy designing and building things.

Chase the Ace!

The draw was won by John Richards.  No joy, so the pot rises.
