Today or speakers were David Short from the Rotary Club of Kingston, Linda Clouthier from Easter Seals, and Rachel Hornbeck with her daughter Harlee. Rachel and Harlee have been recipients of the generosity of Easter Seals. They were all here to help launch this year's campaign to our club.
David reminded us of the deep connection between Easter Seals and Rotary.

This Is the 100th anniversary of Easter Seals in Canada, and there will be special events all year long. This Year's Telethon takes place on April 3rd, and the Easter Seals regatta will be held July 23rd. There will also be special 'light up' days - Fort Henry is already on board.

Of course, there is a close connection between the Rotary Clubs in Kingston and Camp Merrywood. Hopefully there will be a Rotary Day soon, where there can be tours, a BBQ and more. All of the clubs in Kingston have contributed to the construction of the new fire pit at Merrywood. It takes about $2,500 to support a child at Merrywood, giving that child a chance to be like every other kid. It's a huge thing that Merrywood will be open this year, although Linda stressed COVID protocols will be strictly followed.

David asked all Club members to get involved with this year's campaign.

Funds raised go to many different programs, including funding equipment and assistive devices, like wheelchairs. Most of the funding for equipment goes to families with an average income of $40,000. With a power wheelchair costing up to $35,000, this support is sorely needed. As children grow they outgrow mobility aids, so the need continues.
CK Rotary will have its own team for fundraising as usual. Please spread the word to all your contacts. Jim Rymerson will again spearhead our club's efforts.

Linda Clouthier has been with Easter Seals for about a year, and comes to the organization from being an Easter Seals mom. Her 6 year old son has received support from Easter Seals. The financial support is priceless, but the emotional support of the Easter Seals community has been important as well.

Linda turned the floor over to Rachel and Harlee. Harlee is 6 and has a neurological disorder impacting her speech and mobility. She uses a wheelchair, walker and stander, which are all very expensive. Easter Seals has provided them with financial support as well as a community of families who help them. Rachel expressed thanks for all that Rotary does to help kids like Harlee.

After questions, John Gale thanked all of our speakers this morning.
